Since October 2016, there has been a conflict in Cameroon between English-speaking separatist groups and the predominantly French-speaking government. What began as a peaceful protest by teachers and lawyers in the English-speaking regions, degenerated into violence after the protest was violently suppressed by the army commanded by the French-speaking president Paul Biya. More than half a million people are on the run in their own country and tens of thousands have sought refuge in Nigeria. Yet there are strong women such as Esther Omam and Kah Walla who, each in their own way, continue to strive for a peaceful solution.
