Backlight: Rebranding Migration

How will Europe be transformed if migration is not only seen as a problem, but as a solution? Backlight considers a new migration narrative: the migrant as fortune bringer instead of fortune seeker. And what can we learn from super diverse cities where minorities are the majority?

In different cities throughout Europe, initiatives are hatched by a young and mixed generation which thinks beyond its national identity. With social decisiveness, enterprise, and creativity, they show that migration leads to enrichment or essential upheaval. Their worldviews and initiatives often go beyond the stigma of ‘migrant’ that is so often put on them. Are they a new society that transcends the ideas of ‘us’ and ‘them’? What parallel networks did they create?  And can we keep the economy going without migrants?
