In CAGED, Laura Vermeire breaks the taboo on anorexia nervosa by documenting her eating disorder and the path to recovery.

There comes a moment in everyone’s life when they are forced to face the hardest struggle imaginable. The loss of a loved one, a painful break-up, an illness… For Laura, that moment was her eating disorder. Anorexia nervosa. A mix of circumstances had unintentionally led to her losing more than 10 kg in a couple of months’ time. She had never realized, until the moment that it was almost too late. At her lowest point, Laura weighed not more than 35,8 kg. she could no longer take the stairs. Her heart could stop beating any moment.

At that point, Laura knew something had to change. This documentary tells her story: from happy girl exploring the world, to an emaciated body and foggy soul. Only a ghost of what she had once been. With the help of experts and the people that are close to her, Laura gives a deeper insight into how eating disorders might develop. She want to break the taboo that still rests on the subject. But she also shows what helped her during her recovery. She pictures her entire trajectory so that people better understand what it is all about. Control and letting go of control. Because it's not just about (not) wanting to eat. It goes far beyond that.
