Ep. 3 Journey To The Heart Of Darkness

Rudi Vranckx travels westwards along the Congo river, deep into the heart of Congo. More...

Rudi Vranckx travels westwards along the Congo river, deep into the heart of Congo. Kilometre after kilometre we see the world becoming more exotic and more mysterious. Acrobatic fishermen who try to extract diamonds from a swirling stretch of water. An imam who, in the name of women’s liberation, demands the legal right to have four wives and predicts the swift Islamisation of Europe. At a holy forest, a massive research centre that, for inexplicable reasons, has remained intact for decades. Throughout this whole episode the ghost of Patrice Lumumba, Congo’s first prime minister, is never far away.  Good morning Congo takes you to the spot from where Lumumba gave his addresses and survived an attempt on his life to a village deep in the jungle where no one has seen a white man for the last thirty years. It’s there that the local sect leader, Moïse le Libérateur ( Moïse the Liberator) gives Vranckx a royal welcome – and then tells him that he is actually Lumumba and the new Jesus.
