For the first time in history Rail Away will go to Japan! Starting point of the journey is the city Nagasaki, with a beautiful location in a bay on the Southern island Kyushu. Sadly, we know this city from that moment in history on 9 August 1945 that the nuclear bomb ended the lives of more than 70.000 people. Rail Away visits the Atomic Museum and the location where the bomb hit the ground. Beside this dark chapter in world history, the Netherlands has built a strong relationship with Nagasaki. It was for many years that Japan only had contact with the outside world through the artificial island of Dejima, where a community of Dutch people lived. Nowadays many tourists, Japanese and foreign, still visit Dejima. In Nagasaki we get on board of the Sea Side Liner, which lead us through a mountain area to beautiful shores of the Omura bay. At this bay we find Huis ten Bosch, a park which houses replicas of many Dutch buildings, such as the Dom of Utrecht, the city hall of Gouda and Palace Huis ten Bosch, home of the Dutch King. During our journey we also see the very luxurious train, the Aru Ressha. The trip continues to Sesebo, a city near the water. Many people come here to watch the sunset at the Kujuku Islands. These images were also the first images you see in the movie The last Samourai.
