The Jussen Brothers is an inspiring three-part documentary on how two young and extremely talented musicians from Amsterdam are conquering the world. That is due in part to their unparalleled skill and unrelenting perseverance, remarkably young audience.
Get a behind-the-scenes look at what happens before and after the concerts… Lucas and Arthur Jussen are not twins, as is often thought. Arthur is 3½ years his brother’s junior. How he apparently effortlessly reached the same high level as his brother is nothing short of a miracle. They were only at primary school when they debuted at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. Their first teacher was quick to conclude that they were out of her league, so she sent a recording showing their exceptional talent to Maria João Pires. The legendary pianist did not hesitate for a moment to invite the boys and show them the ropes. First at her finca in Portugal, and later for six months in Brazil. By then they became the youngest musicians ever to be signed by the prestigious label 'Deutsche Grammophon' and the Dutch royal family had already embraced the boys and invited them to perform on numerous official occasions and state visits.
For this behind-the-scenes documentary, famous Dutch television personality Ivo Niehe accompanies the brothers in cities like Paris, São Paulo, Vienna and Boston. He will join them as the brothers work out in the fitness rooms and prepare themselves backstage before their performances, and he will witness the incredibly enthusiastic reactions from the audiences. Famous colleagues like Lang Lang, Cecilia Bartoli, the Hungarian conductor Iván Fischer en his Japanese colleague Kazuki Yamada, the Dutch director of the Concertgebouw, Simon Reinink, and living legend Maria João Pires have made no secret of their admiration for the brothers. Listen on how the brothers’ parents, grandparents and girlfriends make it a family story. Witness how Lucas and Arthur depend on the incredibly strong ties that exist between them, and – last but not least – listen to the stories of their love lives.
