In the television series The New Stradivarius, six well known musicians accept the challenge of making their own musical instruments. Stradivarius, Fender, Rickenbacker; we all know the names of these genius musical instrument makers who enabled artists to play the most beautiful symphonies and world famous songs. But how hard is it to build an instrument? What is required to make it work? How do you make it to produce the exact right sound? Famous musicians accept the challenge of making their own instrument, with their own hands, to then perform for a big audience, that is, if they dare…

Spike, guitarist for Di-RECT and The Deaf, designs an electric guitar and sitar in one, something that has never been made before. His new album contains a song that includes both the electric guitar and the sitar. Without this ingenious invention, he cannot play this song live. But it does not stop there: the unique instrument must also get a retro-classic look. Formerly fascinated by The Who's Pete Townshend and his Gibson, Spike travels to the Gibson factory in Nashville for inspiration. When he gets home, he starts working with Eugen Wulff, a very popular craftsman among professional artists for his handmade guitars with a fifties / sixties look. We witnesses blood, sweat, tears and euphoria as Spike's ideal instrument is realized. Finally, Spike introduces the audience to his self-built guitar.
