Moon Riders

As the city unsuspectingly sleeps, and traffic lights go pointlessly from red to green and back again, the Moon Riders stalk the streets. An artist (Aukje Dekker) and her friends, young and old, are on a mission. Can they use art to brighten up a boring, empty square or street, all in one night?

While the programme is made with the help of artists, it’s the kids who are in charge. Chadi, aged 11, wants to make an earth wizard that reminds people to be nice to trees. Soraya, 9, would like to see more love in her neighbourhood, and makes some big pink rabbit ears. And 12-year-old Timo is fascinated by chickens’ eyes, the theme of his conceptual artwork.

Each episode feels like a road trip in its own right. One minute it’s a philosophical discussion about art, the next presenter Aukje is breathing fire while watching a weird piece of performance. Meanwhile, everyone is hard at work on their art.
