Stop It Now

In this 5 part vlog series Stop It Now, 5 teenagers share their personal experiences regarding sexual abuse. Through the lens of their vlog cameras, we observe their compelling stories and closely follow the course of the abuse. Friendships and trust make way for transgressive behaviour which forces these teenagers to turn to their video diaries to organize their thoughts. In their compelling and unique ways, they share their deepest secrets and take on their vulnerability. We can see how the abuse starts and more importantly: how it stops. The most important message for the young viewers: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. It is not your fault. This series has been based on true stories. In collaboration with the Sexual Assault Center, the makers have been able to realize a truthful and accurate portrayal of reality. 

The main characters Lara, Jesper, Samantha, Gio, and Floor indicate that their coach, family member, or babysitter sometimes does some very strange things. We see the children pick up their camera’s and give daily updates about their lives. They share their fears about telling someone about it: isn’t it their own fault? The struggle of a child and their journey to ask for help collides to form a strong message in every episode: If someone crosses your boundaries, it is not your fault. Talk about it with someone you trust.
