Yassine, an eleven-year-old Dutch-Moroccan boy, is the Children’s Mayor of Gouda. He wants to get rid of prejudice by encouraging children of different backgrounds to spend a day with each other. Especially for this plan, he became a Children’s Mayor, to attract a lot of attention for it.
He gives many speeches and calls on children to spend a day together, sets a good example himself and hopes other children will imitate him. But Yassine’s term as a children’s mayor is nearly ending and he is in a hurry: who will listen to him when he’s just a normal boy again? After some mails back and forth with his hero, the first Dutch-Moroccan mayor Aboutaleb, he’s invited to meet him. Aboutaleb talks to Yassine about how unfair it is for a boy with Moroccan roots, to be confronted by prejudice and to have to prove yourself double. Yassine agrees, but he knows for sure that his plan could banish this problem.
